THE SECRET LIFE OF ARABIA

So, David Schulner is the writer of the Image Comics series Clone and also the creator of the TV shows The Oaks and Do No Harm.

He did an interview about Clone this week, and buried in there is some interesting news.

CV: Not everything is ending for you though. You have a pretty exciting project coming up for Universal Television. What can you tell us about that?

DS: Damn, you're breaking a lot of stories here Mat. I'm adapting Jamie Rich's andDan Christensen's Archer Coe and The Thousand Deadly Shocks put out by ONI Press.

CV: How did you land this gig?

DS: ONI actually pitched the book to me. How about them apples? As soon as they told me the premise I was hooked and knew it'd make a great series. And when I read it I was blown away.

More in the link.

We're in the wayyyyyyyy early stages so far, but David's treatment was pretty fantastic. It was totally weird reading someone else's take on a character I came up with, but when I switch gears and look at it as a fan, it's pretty awesome.

MAY THE EARTH OPEN HERE

We're rounding the corner into our climax on the digital "cliffhanger" version of Archer Coe & the Thousand Natural Shocks. Today chapter 10 went up, that means four more chapters, two more weeks, until the big finale.

If you haven't started yet, now would be a good time to start binge reading so you're right there for Archer to take a bow.

Here is the series page over at Comixology.

By the way, I got a copy of the printed book last week...

It's almost as big as my forehead!

You can't see the lovely spot varnish on the cover in the photo. Jason Storey at Oni Press did a really marvelous job putting it together. As did our editors, Jill Beaton and Robin Herrera.

We still have a few weeks for you guys to get your copies reserved with your comic book retailer so they can have it for you on release day. Since it's a trade and it's printed, Oni Press has done a generous run so the book will last, but even so, all those initial orders count. Here is that order form you can print out and take to them.

You have until May 26!

WHEN MY LIFE IS THRU AND THE ANGELS ASK ME TO RECALL THE THRILL OF IT ALL

Archer Coe & the Thousand Natural Shocks is coming in June. Here's some pertinent info you need to know:

If you are ordering from your comic book shop, give them the Diamond Order Code FEB141356. You have until May 26 to make sure the preorder is in, but please don't hesitate to let them know early.

Bookstores will use the ISBN 978-1-620101-21-6. That's also the code librarians will use. If you can, check your local library, see if they have ways to suggest books to order. Tell them this is a good one.

Netgalley folks should have this month and next to grab the book for review. If you use Goodreads or have a book blog, reviews help us a lot. Retailers and journalists looking to see the book, drop me a line at golightly [a] gmail.

Of course, I like the book, but don't just take my word for it. Here's what some folks you actually respect graciously had to say:

"Noir, hypnotism, murder, twists, double crosses, a femme fatale, masked men, and talking alley cats!  Archer Coe, you reached right into the gaping hole in my chest, and stole my heart."  - Chelsea Cain, author of Kill Me Twice and Let Me Go

“Archer Coe, the Mind's Arrow, is a proto-pulp character as if imagined by David Lynch.  Jamie Rich's noir romanticism and Dan Christensen's deceptive ligne claire style deliver a tale where reality bends across memory to reveal the hypnotic truth in a story that's both delightfully classic and boldly fresh.” - Matt Wagner, creator of Mage and Grendel

"Settling in the uncanny valley between Fantomas and The Spirit, Archer Coe is a stunning who-done-it that seamlessly becomes a kaleidoscopic 'Who am I?' tale.  I read it once, thinking I knew what would happen, then twice, knowing everything I knew was wrong, the eggshell of my brain having been pierced and the hope within having been mysteriously restored." - Glen David Gold, author of Carter Beats the Devil.

“Absolutely terrific.” - David Lloyd, co-creator/artist of V For Vendetta

In celebration of Archer, my choice over at This is My Jam this week is Bobby Vinton's "I Remember You." I listened to a lot of Vinton while writing the script, but this song was the most important.

Recorded on 1962 in New York

Current Soundtrack: The Beatles, Rubber Soul (US Version)

I AM THE SON, AND THE HEIR

Oh, man. It feels like we've been teasing this one forever. But here it is being announced at last.

As part of their fifth anniversary New Year's celebration, the Robot 6 blog has the exclusive lowdown on Archer Coe, The Mind's Arrow, vol. 1: The Thousand Natural Shocks by myself and Dan Christensen, and to be published by Oni Press in June.

Read all about it and see a preview right now!

Dan also has more thoughts up on his blog, as well as a sneak peek at pages from his other upcoming comics.

I'm very proud of this book. It was written in the same creative space as A Boy and a Girl, and I think both show real growth for me, making for perhaps my most complete reading experiences. I'm stoked that folks are finally going to get to see Dan's incredible work on it.

Current Soundtrack: Lusine, "Lucky;" Satigold, "You'll Find a Way (Switch & Sinden Remix);" Laura Marling, "Master Hunter"
